FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
The city of Flint says it will not be able to permit Sunday alcohol sales before noon this St. Patrick's Day.
While the city recently adopted a resolution to allow a one-time St. Patrick's Day exception to the Sunday morning alcohol ban, the Michigan Liquor Control Commission has taken the position that the city cannot create a one day exception.
The city said the Liquor Commission wanted them to entirely eliminate the Sunday pre-noon ban and allow alcohol sales starting at 7 a.m. on Sunday, something the city didn't want to do.
The city said as a result of the decision, bars and restaurants will not be allowed to sell alcohol at 7 a.m. on St. Patrick's Day and will instead need to wait until noon to serve the beverages.
St. Patrick's Day is this Sunday, March 17.
