Flint teen charged with murder in weekend shooting

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton has charged a Flint teenager with the fatal shooting of a Beecher resident during an armed robbery over the weekend.

The armed robbery and shooting happened Saturday around 3 p.m.

According to police reports, Darshaun Devonta Demond, 17, of Flint, shot and killed Lavantez Phipps, 21, at his home on Nasser Street off Coldwater Road in Mt. Morris Township during the armed robbery.

Leyton charged Demond with five felonies including open murder, a charge that if convicted on, Demond could spend the rest of his life behind bars. Demond was also charged with felony murder, armed robbery and carrying a concealed weapon.

Demond is expected to be arraigned in 67th District Court and remains lodged in the Genesee County Jail.
