A Valley woman is paying it forward to a pet lover who has been rescuing animals abandoned in Arizona.
A quick trip to the dog park is a daily occurrence for Maureen Serva and her dog, Lexi.
Serva founded the dog park.
"She just is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet, and when it comes to animals, I don't know anyone who loves them more than she does," Serva's "Petpal" friend, Linda Daniels, said.
Serva captures strays of all sorts, crates them, feeds them and, in most cases, finds them a home.
Serva keeps photos of all the animals she has saved, all manner of dogs and cats, even a tortoise and a blue parakeet.
Many of the animals have been injured, and Serva often pays for vet treatments out of her own pocket.
"She is a wonderful woman with such a heart for these helpless pets," Daniels said.
Over the past six years, Serva has taken in dozens of pets, including some she's helped nurse back to life.
"You're helping a helpless animal. I would hope that if I were helpless, somebody would help me," Serva said.
Serva now works with the Spirit Rescue No-Kill Shelter in Mesa to find homes for these animals.
