The house on blocks at Hancock and Mason in Saginaw.
SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
Some kids in a local neighborhood have a new play area, but, it's not what you think - the area is actually a house under construction.
Yolanda Williams and her children live on Hancock Street in Saginaw, right next door to a house being fixed up as part of the Neighborhood Stabilization Project. Williams said the house has been on blocks, over a huge hole, for about a month. She said it's becoming a dangerous attraction for neighborhood kids - including her own.
"They were playing hide and seek right here through the back yard. She shouldn't have been over there but she was and she rolled underneath and then my nephew came up and picked her up out of there. That's serious," said Williams.
TV 5 went to City Hall to ask the tough questions. We spoke to construction specialist Terry Collier. He says during the demolition phase, tape was put up around the house several times, but it kept being torn down. Collier said now that construction on the old house is set to begin, snow fencing will be put up by the end of the week.
Williams said that's welcomed news. She just wants it done before someone gets hurt.
"My biggest thing is fencing, signs. I don't care about the project, the house or what they are doing. It's the fencing. This is not safe," commented Williams.
