Mayor, volunteers serve Easter meal at rescue mission

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds of people got their Easter weekend started with a hot meal Friday at the Nashville Rescue Mission.

Mayor Karl Dean helped serve the Easter banquet and said it was a chance for people to show love and compassion for those in need.

Tables were set up with pastel tablecloths and spring flowers, and volunteers from a local Kiwanis Club say they work at the meal as an annual tradition.

"We try to do this every year on Good Friday, and it's just a wonderful way to give back to the community and support the Nashville Rescue Mission that we feel fondly of," said volunteer Lou Burnett.

The meal included traditional Easter foods like ham, green beans and rolls.

"When you think about Easter, Easter is about rebirth and a new beginning, and that's what this place is all about. And as Nashvillians we all need to support the Rescue Mission," Dean said.
