A local school was put up for sale on Craigslist last week – for a starting price of just $1,000.

The Tuscola County building has just sold online and TV5 caught up with the man who used to own it to ask what its future holds.

Mark Mance spent Monday moving stuff out of the old Gagetown school building. He owned the structure for eight years before selling it on-line this weekend for $10,000.

"It's good that I'm finally able to let go of it and do something else," said Mance.

Mance tried to launch a biodiesel business, but it never really got off the ground. After that he decided to move out of the area and sell the facility. So he turned to the Internet to find a buyer for the building. That's when a man from California swooped in to buy the former elementary school.

"I just kind of wanted to let the building go and work on my business down in Detroit instead," explains Mance.

But one resident here says he didn't even know about the auction and he said he would've loved to have had the chance to bid on the building. Don Montreuil owns the local store in town and he was a student at the former school -- and he thought it would be cool to buy it. Even though he's lost that chance he hopes his new neighbor will let him stop by.

"Maybe he would let me come in and play basketball there again because I played a lot of ball there," said Montreuil.

Even if he doesn't get the chance to re-live his school days in the gym, Montreuil wants the new owner to care for the old building.

"I just hope they take care of it you know," said Montreuil. "I'd hate to see it get destroyed. It's been sitting around a long time."

Meanwhile, Mance tells TV5 the new owner is planning on possibly living in the school. Mance just hopes the new owner realizes what he's getting himself into.

"It's a big building, it's a lot to maintain," Mance said. "People don't understand the expenses in something so large, so we'll see if he understands the ramifications of that."
