Cottonwood police said they found Molotov cocktails at the scenes of three suspected arson fires on Monday.
The first fire broke out at 5:21 a.m. at the Spirit Gas Station at 646 N. Main St. Five Molotov cocktail-style devices had been left or thrown around the property, according to Cottonwood police spokesman Sgt. Cody Savage.
As first-responders were handling the fire, a resident approached police and told them there was black smoke coming from the city human resources building at 810 N. Main St.
Officers arrived at the scene at 6:14 a.m. and found black smoke emitting from three damaged windows. Fire crews were able to keep the blaze from spreading.
A third arson case was reported at Sun West Bank at 704 S. Main St. Evidence of Molotov cocktail devices were found at that location as well, police said.
The investigation is in its early stages and detectives are working to collect physical evidence, Savage said. Police and fire investigators are working to drum up investigative leads.
People with any information about the arson cases are asked to contact the Cottonwood Police Department or Yavapai Silent Witness.
The Human Resources, Finance and Purchasing departments will be temporarily moving to the Public Safety building at 199 S. Sixth St. They are currently in the process of gathering their necessities and should be operational on Tuesday, Savage said. All telephone numbers will be the same for each department.
