NEW HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

A 41-year-old woman told police she was sexually assaulted several times while being held at knife point in New Haven early Monday morning.

The woman told police that the man grabbed her from behind and threatened to kill her.

After the sexual assault occurred, she called police and showed investigators where the incident happened before being taken to the hospital.

The suspect is being described as a Hispanic man in his late 30s, who is 5"6' with a slim build, black hair and clean shaven.

He was wearing blue jeans, a gray hooded sweatshirt over a white striped T-shirt and Timberland boots during the assault.

People who live and work in this area told Eyewitness News there are surveillance cameras posted up near some of the businesses.

They said they want police find who did this fast.

"I been here for 10 years this is the first time, I heard this someone was assaulted around the corner," said one resident, who wished to not to be identified. "This is crazy because its getting bad right now."

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 203-946-6316 or the New Haven Police "Tips Line" at 203-946-2875. All calls will be kept confidential.
