Flint apartment fire ruled arson, one dead

Fire crews battled a huge fire that killed one person at the Ballenger Manor Apartments Thursday morning in the city of Flint.

That fire is now being ruled arson. Police are now treating the case as a homicide.

The fire started around 5:30 a.m. Thursday at 809 Ballenger Hwy.

The area is about a block north of West Court Street.

The person killed was a female who lived in a second-story apartment. Her name and age is not being released at this time.

WNEM has received word that all other occupants affected were able to make it out of the structure unharmed.

The entire third floor of one building was destroyed.

Ballenger Highway was closed for a short time as firefighters battled the blaze.

Police have no suspects in custody at this time.
