FLINT, MI (WNEM/AP) -

A young man has been sentenced to prison in the death of his 6-month-old son in the Flint area.

Lensley E. Martin II was sentenced Wednesday to 4 years, 9 months to 15 years in prison in Genesee County Circuit Court.

Martin told the court he accepted responsibility and will use time in prison to "better myself."

He earlier pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the September 2011 death of Lensley Martin III. A no contest plea isn't an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing.

Police in Genesee County's Mount Morris Township found the child wasn't breathing. The child died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Martin initially was charged with murder and child abuse in the case. He was given credit for 548 days served.
