NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Nashville Mayor Karl Dean and the group Metro@50 are inviting the public to a free party from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday to celebrate Metro government's 50th anniversary.

The event will feature live bands, shopping, food, and fun for children and dogs at the celebration at the public square outside Metro's historic courthouse. City officials are even offering free parking at the Public Square Garage under the courthouse.

Legendary country music singer and longtime Nashvillian Brenda Lee will take the stage. Sam Bush, Del McCoury and Night Train All-Stars will be among the performers, which will include special guests. Exhibits from local shops and restaurants will also be featured.

Nashville is said to be one of only 14 consolidated governments in the country where the city and county governments merged.
