TRAVELERS REST, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Deputies arrested a man found walking along side of a Travelers Rest road with his baby - and both were naked.
Greenville County deputies said they received several calls about the man, who was spotted walking along U.S. 25 near Highway 414 Saturday afternoon.
The man walked into the traffic flow while holding the child, then tried to run into the woods, but passersby stopped and detained him until deputies arrived, according to deputies.
As deputies tried to take the 13-month-old boy, they said he intentionally bit the child on his shoulder, causing redness and a bruise. Deputies said the child was also scratched by briars in the woods.
Both the child and his father, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Hedger, were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, deputies said.
Deputies said the baby was unharmed and the man was taken for evaluation before he was placed in jail on a charge of unlawful neglect of a child. He is being held on a $10,000 bond.
Deputies said the child was placed with his mother.
