ArkLaTex runners recall Boston Marathon bombing

Posted: Updated:
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Two explosions Monday stopped thousands of runners in their tracks at the Boston Marathon. More than a dozen ArkLaTex runners were registered for the event, several gave their account of the bombing incident.

"We felt the ground shake, and we weren't real sure what was going on, but just within seconds there were sirens everywhere and there were police and ambulances and fire trucks," says runner Jeff Haynes from Texarkana, TX.

Runner Kim Howard from Mineral Springs, AR says the scene after the attack was chaotic.

"As I walked up, there were people crying and everything, I asked you know, what went on, and they said two bombs went off downtown," says Howard.

Howard says many runners ran to their hotel rooms for safety.

"Everyone was in shock and couldn't believe...and really didn't understand what was going on," says Prather.

Authorities say after the two explosions, police found and defused another explosive.

Some runners worry that this attack will forever change how marathon races are organized and secured.

"I guess it takes away from the event, that now you have to...it's more like having to go to the airport or something, were you have to worry about this happening," says Wallace Robertson from Shreveport.
