The Great Lakes Loons hitters mustered only one hit against Bowling Green pitchers in a 2-0 loss to the Hot Rods at Dow Diamond in Midland on Tuesday.
Jeff Ames pitched five strong innings of one-hit ball against the Loons. Jose Molina picked up the win for the Hot Rods, throwing three no-hit shutout innings to propel Bowling Green to the victory.
Ryan Garton pitched a scoreless ninth to register his third save of the year.
The loss marred an otherwise stellar pitching performance by Loons starter Miguel Salbaran, who threw five shutout innings.
Jonathan Martinez gave up two runs in four innings pitched and suffered his first loss of the year for the Loons.
Bowling Green pushed two runs across in the eighth innings to improve to 9-3 on the year. The Hot Rods sit atop the standings in the Midwest League's Eastern Division, a half-game ahead of South Bend.
The Loons fell to 5-5.
The teams are back at it Wednesday at Dow Diamond with the first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
