WNEM TV5 has learned police and emergency responders have cordoned off a trash can where a suspected pipe bomb is located.

TV5 reporter Andrew Keller received a tip that something possibly exploded at 3500 Hospital Road in Saginaw Township. Saginaw Township Police confirm that officers were called to Harvey Randall Wickes Park where a possible pipe bomb exploded in a trash can at Wickes Park.

Saginaw Township Police Chief Donald Pussehl said officers are waiting for the ATF to investigate. Pussehl would not state if there was an explosion at the park. According to Keller, the scene at Wickes Park is very active with law enforcement officials.

Keller said when he arrived at the scene, two witnesses said they saw odd behavior from someone around a trash bin. Keller also tweeted that from his vantage point, 150 away, he could see no evidence of an explosion.

Just before 4:30 p.m. members of the Michigan State Police bomb squad arrived and deployed a special robot to investigate.
