A patch of ice is thought to have contributed to several accidents that involved five vehicles on southbound Interstate 35 in the Northland early Wednesday morning.
Four people were injured in the incident, but one man went to the hospital in critical condition.
The accidents started happening about 5:40 a.m. Wednesday on the interstate at North Chouteau Trafficway. Police believe the accidents happened over several minutes.
Police say the vehicles slid down an embankment to ramp leading to southbound I-35. Three of the vehicles caught fire after colliding.
One man in a white pickup suffered burns and is in critical condition at an area hospital.
Southbound I-35 was reopened to traffic shortly after 7 a.m.
The North Chouteau Trafficway ramp leading to southbound I-35 is expected to open about 9 a.m.
