MACOMB TOWNSHIP, MI (AP) -

The owner of a pet ferret wants charges against a 17-year-old girl after the animal went missing following a party at a suburban Detroit home.

The Detroit Free Press reports the 35-year-old woman's 16-year-old daughter had friends over Saturday night in Macomb County's Macomb Township.

Investigators say a 17-year-old who was at the party told them someone gave her the animal while she was leaving the home. According to Detective Sgt. Jason Abro of the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the girl said she didn't believe she was stealing the ferret.

The animal was spotted in a photo on Facebook. It's been returned to its owner.

Abro says investigators plan present the case to the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office for review. He says the girl could be charged with larceny.
