BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -
Despite the support of the local community, a man many are hailing a hero says his business just isn't healthy enough to keep the doors open.
Brian Martindale, who opened "Karma Inc. Apparel" last year, plans to close his store in downtown Bay City by May 4.
Martindale gained local recognition in January when he donated a kidney to help 10-year-old Jessica Schwerin of Bay City. He suffered complications from the surgery and as a result, could only operate his business on a part-time basis.
A number of local businesses stepped up to assist Martindale two months ago, but their efforts apparently weren't enough. The story originally opened in October of 2012.
While he would like to reopen his store eventually, Martindale said he's going to start looking for employment while regrouping.
