Babysitter charged with child abuse

Posted: Updated:
OWOSSO, MI (WNEM) -

An Owosso man is facing charges of first-degree child abuse after prosecutors say he physically abused the 2-year-old boy for which he was caring.

Prosecutors say Erik Macklin was babysitting the toddler on April 12, when the child suffered life threatening injuries, including a fractured skull.

The mother of the child was working when the incident took place.

The child is expected to recover.

Macklin is facing charges under Dominick's Law, which allows for stiffer sentences in child abuse cases.

If convicted, Macklin faces life behind bars.
