The Buena Vista School District's former athletic director says he will sue the district for wrongful termination after being fired during Thursday night's school board meeting.
Michael Carter says he believes the firing was personal and will seek legal action.
Besides serving as the district's athletic director, Carter was also the high school football coach.
The decision came as a surprise even to some on the school board.
Carter thinks he was let go because he held some sort of fundraiser -- something he says school board members knew about.
"[The fundraisers were] to give the kids pre-game meals," said Carter. "If the kids couldn't afford cleats, I would purchase them cleats, and that was what the fundraiser was for."
So far no one on the board has stated why Carter was terminated as athletic director.
