TEMPE, AZ (CBS5) -
Surveillance video released by Tempe police shows a baseball bat attack that sent five Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity members to the hospital was provoked.
The video showed at least 16 people going after 20-year-old Caleb Everett. Many took turns beating him.
Investigators said this is what caused Everett to come back with his friends armed with guns and baseball bats.
Tempe police Sgt. Michael Pooley said a young woman was the root of the problem. The 18-year-old girl is a high school student from Surprise. Saturday was prom night.
"It got out around 11 o'clock. I don't know what happened between then and 3:30 in the morning and how she got to the fraternity house," Pooley said.
Police said when Everett came to pick her up from the party, he had words with some of the fraternity brothers before being jumped in the parking lot. A half hour later, he returned with some friends, looking for revenge, according to police.
Tempe police arrested five people but said the investigation is far from over. It's likely some of the fraternity guys will also face charges for picking the first fight.
This isn't the first time police have been called out to deal with this same bunch. Earlier this school year, police were called to another brawl between Delta Kappa Epsilon and another fraternity.
