MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Fire officials have extinguished a small blaze at Family Fare supermarket, located at 2026 North Saginaw Road in Midland.

The fire started at around 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. The fire is believed to have started in a dumpster in back of the store. The fire didn't spread to the building but the brick of the building did have char marks on it from the heat of the flames.

TV5 later learned an old whiskey barrel inside the dumpster was on fire.

A gas meter was on fire as well as a utility pole in the area. Fire officials also say that there was also gas leak in the building but the situation never reached emergency levels.

The area where the fire broke out between Campau Drive near the intersection of Business 10.

The ordeal left employees of the grocery store waiting outside for hours as crews inspected the gas meter and made sure it was safe to return inside.

TV5 is told all the businesses impacted by the incident have been given the all-clear and are back open.

Fire investigators are trying to determine what started the fire.
