A multiple-vehicle crash left one person dead and injured a woman, three infants and another driver in Rutherford County.
The wreck was reported at 4:44 p.m. near the intersection of John Bragg Highway and Double Springs Road, east of Murfreesboro.
Three vehicles were involved, and at least one rolled over, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
The THP said a 2001 Chevy Venture van was attempting to cross John Bragg Highway from Double Springs Road when it pulled into the path of a 1994 Ford Ranger, which was traveling eastbound on John Bragg Highway.
The two vehicles collided, and the Venture then rolled into a Ford Taurus, which had stopped along Double Springs Road at the John Bragg Highway intersection.
The van came to a rest on its top, THP said.
A passenger in the van, Thomas J. Arnol, 77, of Murfreesboro, TN, was pronounced dead at the scene.
THP said Arnol was drinking and had drugs in his system.
The driver of the van, Amanda L. Vanatta, 33, of Christiana, TN, was transported by medical helicopter to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Vanatta also had been drinking and had drugs in her system.
THP Lt. Jack Vaughn said three children, two were four months old and the other was 1 year old, riding in the Venture, were properly secured.
Two of the children were transported to Middle Tennessee Medical Center, while the third was taken to Vanderbilt.
The driver of the Ford Taurus, Michael L. Anderson, 48, of Murfreesboro, TN, also suffered injuries.
No citations have been issued, but criminal charges are pending.
