A 21-year-old man will spend the rest of life in prison for the murder of a Saginaw woman who was stabbed 54 times and had a TV dropped on her head.
Saginaw County Circuit Judge Darnell Jackson sentenced Lashon Hollman on Thursday.
Life without parole is the mandatory sentence in Michigan for first-degree murder.
Hollman was convicted in March in the slaying of Cassandra Nelson, whose body was found Feb. 2, 2012, in her home.
State police experts say DNA from a bloody bread knife in Nelson's bedroom and a beer can near her body matched Hollman's.
Hollman said Thursday that he's innocent and should have testified in his own defense.
Jackson reminded Hollman he was advised during the trial of his right to take the stand.
