U.S. News releases report of best high schools in nation

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

National magazine U.S. News and World Report has released their annual report on the top performing high schools in the United States.

The magazine has national and state rankings. Only one high school in Michigan made the top 200 in the national rankings. That high school was International Academy in Birmingham, which came in at No. 18 on the list.

The rankings for the state of Michigan included a number of local schools in the top 100.

The highest locally ranked school was Frankenmuth High School, which came in at No. 3 in the state rankings.

Midland H.H. Dow High came in at No. 28. Holly High School ranked No. 34 on the list.

Here is a list of the rankings of locally based high schools in the Top 100:

  • Frankenmuth High School - No. 3
  • Midland H.H. Dow High School - No. 28
  • Holly High School - No. 34
  • Ithaca High School - No. 46
  • Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy - No. 47
  • Midland High School - No. 56
  • Tawas High School - No. 63
  • Davison High School - No. 64
  • Bad Axe High School - No. 68
  • Caro High School - No. 70

To be eligible for a state ranking, a school must be awarded a national gold or silver medal. High Schools in Michigan earned seven gold medals, 68 silver medals and 131 bronze medals.
