OTTAWA, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A special memorial was held Monday and Tuesday for Blake and Blaine Romes, whose bodies were recovered last week in Putnam County following an Amber Alert.

Just days later, it was difficult for family and friends to talk about Blake, 17, and Blaine, 14, but they said it's sharing memories and hearing new stories from friends that is getting them through this tough time.

The memories of the joyful, happy and genuine brothers are the positives in this heartbreaking tragedy.

"They always had a smile on their face, they were always happy," said their uncle Brent Romes. "They never met a stranger. They were always best friends by the end of the conversation."

"I miss them both," added Roman Osborn. "They were both good friends of mine, and I want them back."

The legacy of Blake and Blaine is one that puts a smile on the faces of their friends and family.

An outpouring of support from the community goes to show the positive impact they made, and that is something their mother Shellie Grothause says makes her very proud.

"You can tell the community cares, especially with the showing here yesterday and today and, I'm sure, tomorrow at the church," said Greg Grothause, another uncle.

The close brothers are being laid to rest Wednesday morning. Anyone wishing to donate to help the family with funeral and burial expenses can donate at any Huntington bank location for the "Romes Memorial Fund."

"Anybody who knows them knows that this world is definitely a dimmer place without them," said the boys' cousin Mandy Bosiljevac. "It's going to be a very, very long time, I think, before any of us can come to terms with any of this."
