BANGOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
An old vintage Ford Fiesta sits not too far from a 2001 Jaguar on West Birch Drive in Bangor Township. Arnold Tennant has 11 cars sitting in his front yard.
"I like collecting cars, always have," said Tennant.
Tennant is 75 years old, divorced and lives alone. He said his cars hold a special place.
"They take the place of a woman, in a way, but they're a lot more dependable," said Tennant.
But neighbors nearby aren't fans of his hobby.
Rose Muszynski calls it the neighborhood car lot and said it's been that way for five years.
"You know, I don't let it consume me, but it's there. You see it every day, and I think it's a disgrace to the neighborhood and to the township," said Muszynski.
In fact, she's concerned it's driving down her property values. So much so, she's gone to the Bangor Township Board countless times to complain. And on Tuesday night, the board gave a glimmer of hope to upset neighbors.
"The way it looks it's going to be restrictive to the amount of cars each resident in the home can own," said Terry Watson, Bangor Township's supervisor.
Watson said the board voted to develop an ordinance that would limit the number of cars each township driver can own to three a piece.
"I will believe all of this when it comes to finality. I'll believe it when I see it," said Muszynski.
That could mean good news for Muszynski and her neighbors, but Tennant said he just wants to be left alone.
"Mind your own business and you won't get in any trouble. I'm in trouble though with everybody around here it seems like," said Tennant.
The board meets once again Thursday night to discuss the three car per person ordinance. Tennant told TV5 he thinks even if this passes, he could be grandfathered in, but the township supervisor said not so fast.
