MSP thwarts possible shooting during routine traffic stop

Posted: Updated:

Michigan State Police troopers made a traffic stop on Thursday morning that took a strange twist - they say a pair inside that vehicle admitted they were on their way to "shoot a couple of people."

Troopers pulled a car over that had a brake light out, and inside the car was a man and a woman. After a short conversation, troopers asked the passengers to step out of the vehicle. While conducting a routine search, they said they discovered the woman was carrying a gun.

When they asked why she had a revolver, she replied she and the man were going to go shoot someone because of a fight originating from the preceding night.

"The suspect advised that they were about to shoot a couple of people because of a previous fight," said MSP Lt. Brian Cole. "Another amazing thing about this stop is as the troopers were interviewing the suspect, the possible victims, the people involved in the fight, happened to walk right by the patrol vehicle."

All three people in the car face felony firearms and drug possession charges.

You can watch the trooper describe the arrest in the video clip above.
