SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

For nearly 30 years, TV5 has been putting the top graduating high school seniors across Mid-Michigan in the spotlight.

It's become the tradition of the graduation season, learning which high school seniors have been named the Best and Brightest.

"I knew about the Best and the Brightest because I saw it on television. Hard work has paid off," said Allia Howard, a graduating senior at Flint Carmen Ainsworth.

Nearly 250 valedictorians and salutatorians gathered at Saginaw Valley State University for the event on Sunday.

The students celebrated the honor by posing for pictures with TV5 personalities and taping commercials that will be seen by viewers across Mid-Michigan.

"We always get accused of doing bad news all the time here at TV5. This is a great opportunity for us to promote some of the good things that are going on," said TV5 General Manager Al Blinke.

Now that these students are officially the Best and Brightest, they are eager to achieve even bigger things.

"I'm going to Kalamazoo College to study law," said Allia Howard. "I can't wait."

WNEM.com will have a picture slideshow of the day's activities as well as the videos that will air on TV5.
