BV plans meeting for parents to sound off

BUENA VISTA TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Students in Buena Vista are back to class and students and parents can get their questions answered about the district's financial situation.

A special meeting will be held at the central office on Tuesday.

The district was closed for two weeks because officials couldn't make the payroll. The state has released aid money to fund the district for the rest of the school year.

That meeting begins at 4 p.m.

It was announced on Monday that students would be able to finish out the school year as planned, except they'll be in school until late June to make up for the lost time.

The district is still in financial turmoil. It will only get enough state aid for June, July and August.

That could affect when school will start in the fall.

The district has the two special meetings planned for this week. As mentioned above, parents and students will meet with the district on Tuesday. They're asked to bring questions and concerns about the schools' future.

On Thursday, the school board will meet so district leaders will determine if any staff will need to be laid off again. That decision will be based on student attendance this week.
