Woman found in crashed vehicle had been shot

Posted: Updated:

Authorities say a woman found in a crashed car on Kansas City's Northeast side had been shot.

Police were called about 12:30 a.m. Thursday to East Independence and Hardesty avenues to investigate the need for an ambulance.

When officers arrived, they found a car that had driven up on the curb.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, was the only occupant. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police said the woman had injuries inconsistent with the accident, and she was shot to death.

Detectives are following up on leads and ask anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
