Construction a concern for holiday travelers

Posted: Updated:
SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Holiday travelers could see some huge backups when traveling on southbound I-75 as construction has the highway closed down for a stretch in Saginaw County.

Travelers must take I-675 southbound around the project and because that stretch of roadway is only 2 lanes, it could become hectic.

MDOT officials are hoping drivers will take U.S. 127 as an alternate route when traveling north or southbound.

Besides the I-75 project, there are a number of roadways in the area under construction.

Those areas include:

  • Janes Road will remain closed and detoured via Outer Drive, Wadsworth Avenue and Tower Line Road.
  • The M-13 ramp to southbound I-75 is closed. Traffic is rerouted to I-675, where motorists can take southbound I-75.
  • The M-81 ramp to southbound I-75 is closed. Traffic is rerouted to M-13, then to southbound I-675, where motorists can take southbound I-75.
  • The Adams Street ramp to southbound I-75 is closed. Traffic is rerouted to Tittabawassee Road, then to I-675, where motorists can take southbound I-75.
  • The northbound I-675 ramp to southbound I-75 is closed. Motorists can take northbound I-75 to M-84 to access southbound I-75.

Remember to think twice before getting behind the wheel this holiday weekend because police are watching out for bad drivers! State Police are cracking down on people who are "not" wearing seatbelts. They will also be looking for drunk drivers.

The Memorial Day weekend patrols begin Friday at 6 p.m. and continue through Monday.

Last year, nine people died in crashes over the holiday weekend.
