BYRON, MI (WNEM) -

A man is behind bars, accused of assaulting his father and then burning down his parents' house.

The incident happened Saturday night, shortly before 9 a.m.

Shiawassee County Sheriff's deputies say it happened in village of Byron for a disturbance involving the suspect and his father. Before officers arrived, the man had already left the scene in his car.

Deputies say he used that car to ram his father's vehicle before taking off. The suspect then returned to the scene.

Deputies arrested the man and that's when they learned his father's home in Antrim Township had been set on fire.

The 28-year-old man is in jail on possible arson charges, destruction of property and domestic assault.

The victim suffered minor injuries.
