Reserve police officer killed by suspected drunk driver

A Detroit area man is facing charges in connection with  a traffic accident that killed a reserve police officer.

Gerald Lee Belcher was arrested at his Macomb County home Wednesday. He was arraigned in Chesterfield Township District Court on charges of operating with his license suspended causing death and operating while intoxicated causing death.

New Baltimore officer Patrick Wisniewski was riding his motorcycle Sunday night when a car turned in front of him. Wisniewski, who was 33-years-old, had just left nearby Selfridge Air Base where he also worked as a military police officer.

Belcher was ordered held on a $250,000 bond in the county jail.

Visitation for Wisniewski will be 2-8 p.m. Friday at Selfridge Air Base in Harrison Township.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Queen of Creation Catholic Church in New Baltimore.
