SWANTON TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal accident involving a semi on Airport Highway near Scott Road, in Swanton Township.

The accident was in front of Valleywood Golf Course near the Lucas/Fulton County line.

According to OSHP, an Oldsmobile Alero was traveling westbound on US-20A (Airport Highway/SR 2). The driver, Douglas Pile, 55, of Toledo, went left-of-center and hit the semi head-on. Pile was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The semi driver, Robert Petrovich, Jr., 44, of Colville, WA, was traveling eastbound on US-20A, slowing down to make a left turn into a private drive. He was driving a Peterbilt Semi tractor trailer, hauling fencing and livestock equipment.

Petrovich was wearing his seatbelt, and was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation, although weather is not believed to be a factor. It is currently unknown if alcohol was a factor.

State Route 2 was closed for about an hour.
