CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

The driver of a pickup truck is dead after a collision late Thursday night at a Chandler intersection.

A 2005 Toyota minivan carrying six adults was heading north on McQueen Road when it and the eastbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup containing five people collided in the intersection with Ray Road about 11:10 p.m., said Sgt. Joe Favazzo of the Chandler Police Department.

Favazzo said it appeared one of the vehicles ran a red light.

The 49-year-old driver of the truck was dead at the scene and a man in the minivan was hospitalized in critical condition with severe head trauma, Favazzo said. Two other passengers in the van suffered minor injuries.

Two children, ages 6 and 13 years old, were in the truck but were OK, Favazzo said.

Favazzo said impairment on the part of the truck's driver might have been a factor in the crash and that the investigation was continuing.

No names were released.
