MONROE, MI (Toledo News Now) -

The Monroe Police Department says 30-year-old Thanushan Rajnderan hired a hitman to kill his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

Rajnderan is the former manager of a BP Station in Monroe. That's where he paid a co-worker $750 to terminate the boyfriend.

But the would-be hitman chickened out. He took the money, spent it, and contacted police.

One of their undercover officers and the guy had a meeting with Rajnderan to discuss the hit, but it never happened.

Rajnderan was arrested and charged with solicitation to commit homicide.

Police say he's free on bond, but has another court appearance scheduled for later this month.

A computer was also seized.

If convicted, Rajnderan could face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
