GLADWIN, MI (WNEM) -

A 17-year-old girl has been confined to her home because doctors say she needs a hip replaced. But no one will perform the surgery because they say she's too young.

The girl's mother, Kim Albain, says it's hard to watch her daughter, Bree Fox, living life on the sidelines.

"It's rough," said Albain. "It hurts because I see the pain she's in on a daily basis."

Fox suffers from a condition called hip dysplasia. Basically her bones have deteriorated to the point where she can barely walk and she lives in near constant pain.

Fox says she hasn't been outside for two weeks. She spends most of her day in her room or by the window watching people at the gym across the street working out. She daydreams of what it would be like to walk without pain.

"I love to exercise and I can't," exclaimed Fox. "And just spending time with my sister, I can't do that because of stuff she wants to do, I can't do."

Fox has been dealing with physical problems since birth. She was born with two dislocated hips and has already endured a total of 12 surgeries. But, her problems have only gotten worse. Her right hip has deteriorated to the point to where it is now bone-on-bone.

"A really sharp kind of feeling, like metal is being scraped against you," said Fox when describing what that bone-on-bone contact feels like. "And it hurts really, really bad."

Adding insult to injury, whenever Fox does go outside, she has to navigate a dozen steps using her bad hip.

"I have to stop at least 10 times to go up the steps," said Fox.

She needs hip replacement surgery, but there's one very big problem.

"We cannot find a surgeon that will do the hip replacement because of her age," said Albain.

Now Albain is making a desperate plea, hoping someone will step up and give her daughter the life she's always wanted.

"A couple of doctors have said that within a year she's not going to be able to walk if we don't get this done," she said.

Fox's family says they're not giving up hope and will continue searching for a surgeon willing to perform the procedure.
