Bald is bold, bald is brave, and bald is beautiful.
On June 21, 25 employees of InterCall in West Point are going bald for the cure benefiting Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
"We wanted to do something huge for ACS this year. We've been short the past couple of years in meeting our county goal and I wanted to help meet that this year. So Holly comes in and says Christy, let's shave our heads," explains Christy Thompson, Co-captain of Team InterCall.
Thompson and Holly Parker Hanners have been heading the Bald is Beautiful Campaign since April.
They got 25 co-workers on board with the project and are nearly $2,000 away from reaching their goal of $25,000.
"A lot of us have lost someone we love. I lost my mom six years ago, Christy lost her dad. So this is in memory and in honor of those people that we know that are close to us, people that we work with everyday, that have been affected by cancer," says Hanners.
Team InterCall has their own office inspiration for this fundraiser.
Jim Partain was diagnosed with stage-3 brain cancer last August and was given three to six months to live.
He says through this experience, his co-workers have become his family and he is appreciative to their commitment to help.
"I'm grateful to be here and I'm grateful to the ACS for being so wanting to find a cure for this," explains Partain.
The rest of Team InterCall will be going bald next Friday at the Chambers County Relay for Life at 7:00 PM at the Rodeo Arena in Lafayette.
They look forward to sharing their story with the people of their community.
"We hope that people will look at someone who has cancer in a different way. It raises awareness and creates a different dialogue in terms of cancer," says Hanners.
