Michigan State Police troopers and other Mid-Michigan law enforcement agencies are on the lookout for a man who is accused of opening fire on his wife and children over the weekend.
Police are actively searching for Zachary Earl Sofikitis, 35, in connection to the Father's Day shooting.
A state trooper was called to a home around 1:15 p.m. after the wife called 911 to report that when she was meeting up with her husband at a location in Attica Township in Lapeer County, he fired on her and her children with a .22 caliber rifle.
The woman and children fled the scene and were not injured. The wife told police Sofikitis fled the scene on foot prior to their arrival and a witness reported seeing the man carrying the rifle and ammunition when he fled.
State police troopers and deputies from the Lapeer County Sheriff's Office tried to locate Sofikitis with a K-9 unit. A boarder patrol helicopter also joined in the search but attempts to find Sofikitis were unsuccessful and police say he remains at large.
Sofikitis was last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a blue T-shirt. He stands 6'1" tall and has blue eyes and brown hair.
Charges against Sofikitis from the Lapeer County Prosecutor's Office are pending.
