DARIEN, CT (WFSB) -

Darien residents were told to stay inside and call 911 if they saw any suspicious activity after witnesses reported seeing a man armed with a gun Wednesday morning.

According to a post on the Darien Police Department's Facebook page, the man was seen at the Interstate 95 northbound service area, entered the restroom and displayed a gun.

The suspect was described as a male wearing camouflage shorts, and he was last seen running onto the nearby railroad tracks in the vicinity of Tokeneke Road and heading in the direction of Norwalk.

The Darien Police Department, along with members of Connecticut State Police, Metro Transit Authority police and Norwalk police immediately began to search for the man.

However, the search was called off a short time later after Darien police said they were "confident" the man was in the Norwalk area.

As a result of the search, Tokeneke Elementary School was running on a 90 minute delay.

Norwalk police said they were notified of the search around 7 a.m. and began their own search with a police dog.

Police said they set up a perimeter of the train tracks ahead of a canine track, and no one was located and the search was called off.

Train service was temporarily suspended while officers were on the tracks but Metro-North officials said service has since resumed.
