PHOENIX (CBS5) -

An armed home invasion suspect who broke into a Sun City home wearing only blue jeans and a blond wig has been ordered to serve two concurrent 15-year sentences in the Arizona Department of Corrections.

Both sentences exceed the presumptive term for a first time felony conviction for a class 2 dangerous offense under Arizona sentencing guidelines.

On June 21, Joshua Barnes, 33, broke into the home of Dave Sobley and his wife Audrey armed with a loaded weapon.

Audrey Sobley awoke to see Barnes standing in her bedroom wearing the long blond wig. He ordered her to lay face down on the ground and demanded to know where the couple "kept the gold," the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said. He also told her that if she wanted to live she must follow his orders.

Dave Sobley, a Vietnam war veteran, heard the commotion from his separate bedroom down the hall. When he went to investigate, Barnes threatened to kill him and ordered him crawl back to his bedroom, prosecutors said.

Sobley refused due to a prosthetic knee. Barnes then proceeded to stomp on his head and press the gun against his spine, prosecutors said.

Barnes then redirected his attention toward Audrey Sobley, which allowed her husband to retrieve a gun and fire a single shot, striking Barnes in his trigger hand and neck.

Barnes fled the residence located in the 10000 block of 112th Avenue.

Brian Smalley was working in the area of Sun City when the suspect came by his truck.

"He was walking fast by the truck, and we thought maybe he would steal something out of the truck," Smalley said, adding the suspect looked distraught. "He had a rag around his hand, full of blood. I could see he had blood all over his hand."

Eight hours later, Barnes was discovered and arrested on a golf course in the area of Mountain View Road and Venturi Drive.

Maricopa County sheriff's investigators said that on the same evening, Barnes also broke into a home belonging to Sharon Ann Ragan, who was not there at the time.

On June 28, Barnes was indicted on two counts of burglary, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault. He signed a plea agreement to two counts of kidnapping and one count of burglary.

In addition to the concurrent 15-year prison terms, Barnes will be placed on five years of supervised probation following his release.
