NORTHFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -

One of the four victims of a Detroit-area small plane crash was a firefighter and father.

Northfield Township Public Safety and Fire Chief William Wagner said in a release Saturday that 34-year-old Jamie Jose had been with the department for about a year-and-a-half.

Jose died Friday after the single-engine Cessna 172 he was flying in crashed just after takeoff from Oakland County International Airport in Waterford Township.

He was the brother-in-law of 19-year-old pilot Troy Brothers. They died along with Brothers' 58-year-old stepfather James Haley and 53-year-old mother Sandra Haley.

Wagner says Jose leaves behind a wife and three children. A memorial fund is being created at PNC Bank in Whitmore Lake.

Radio transmissions between Brothers and the control tower indicated the plane was carrying too much weight.
