PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak announced today that human remains were discovered at the Berlin Reservoir Wildlife area located on Fewtown Road in Deerfield Township, Portage County.

The discovery was made by the Big Creek Search Dog Team.  This discovery was at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2013.

This occurred in the area where Jeffrey Hathaway's vehicle was discovered on May 17, 2013.  Hathaway was reported missing by his fiancé on May 15 with the Norton Police Department.

An extensive two day search had been conducted upon the discovery of Hathaway's vehicle. This included search team members on foot, ATV's, horseback and Search and Cadaver dogs from Big Creek and other agencies.

The remains that were recovered were approximately three-quarters of a mile from the location of Hathaway's vehicle.  The remains were in heavy underbrush.

Authorities believe the remains may be that of Jeffrey Hathaway.

However, positive identification has not yet been made.  The remains were taken to the Summit County Medical Examiners Office for identification and cause of death.  The investigation is ongoing.
