MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -
A dozen apartments were destroyed during an early morning fire in Midland.
Someone driving by spotted the flames at the Village at Joseph's Run at around 2 a.m.
We're told that person called 911, and then started knocking on residents' doors to evacuate them. He was aided by the building's maintenance man.
Everyone was able to escape without, but 12 units were completely destroyed. The fire is out, and right now the Red Cross is at the scene to help displaced residents.
The apartments are located near the soccer complex on the city's northeast side. Nearby roads were shutdown as firefighters worked to put out the fire, but have since re-opened. Crews worked for hours to douse hotspots.
The extent of the destruction visible in the photos to the right. The fire marshal will be on the scene later Monday to try and determine a cause.
