ISABELLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Leroy man is behind bars after allegedly abducting a woman at a Dollar General store in Shepherd on Wednesday.

Police say a 23-year-old St. Louis woman was shopping at the store when the man, armed with a pair of scissors,  grabbed the woman from behind and forced her into the back room of the store.

The man then took the woman's phone, bound her hands and covered her mouth with paper towels and tape.

The man then fled the store on foot. An MSP K-9 unit was able to find discarded clothing from the suspect which police used to locate the man.

The man, a 36-year-old from Leroy, confessed to the attack and is currently behind bars in Isabella County.

A search of the suspect's vehicle also resulted in the seizure of marijuana and additional evidence of the crime.

Troopers from the Mt. Pleasant Post along with officers from the Isabella County Sheriff's Department and Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police responded to the scene.

Charges are expected in the coming days.
