A jury has found a Flint teenager guilty of manslaughter in the stabbing death of his mother's live-in boyfriend.
Devonte Pittmon, 18, was convicted of beating and stabbing 28-year-old Nemya Roberts at the family's residence on Fleming Road near Pasedena in Flint.
Evidence showed that Pittmon had taken heavy doses of alcohol and drugs earlier in the evening but was sober at the time of the stabbing. Additional evidence indicated that Pittmon had bashed the victim's head into the floor until Pittmon's mother intervened.
Roberts tried to leave the home but was then stabbed to death by Pittmon.
"We respect the jury's decision," said Prosecutor David Leyton, shortly after the verdict was read in court. "It was a difficult case. Assistant Prosecutor Barney Whitesman did an excellent job with the emotionally charged facts."
Pittmon will be sentenced July 17. He faces up to 15 years in prison.
