SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

When a local woman saw the story of a baby's desecrated grave she wanted to help.

TV5 first reported the story of Amy Nuckles, who recently found the headstone missing at her daughter's grave.

"The headstone, everything is gone, and they said it is considered vandalism," Nuckles said.

Carrollton resident Kim Rowan organized a car wash Saturday to raise money for a new headstone. Despite the weather, she managed to raise more than $500.

The cemetery actually dug up the site to make sure the casket was still there.

Nuckles said she was relieved to learn the casket was found, but still wonders what happened to her daughter's headstone. Her daughter, Savanna Lee, died in 1986.

She also hopes that if anybody knows anything, they will step forward. The Gladwin County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
