Local bank donates cash for fireworks security

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Much of Mid-Michigan is gearing up for the big Fourth of July celebration, and one fireworks display is getting some extra help.

FirstMerit Bank has donated $10,000 to help cover the cost of security for the Saginaw fireworks.

The show, shot off from Ojibway Island, is normally policed by the Saginaw officers.

But due to budget cuts this year, the department couldn't afford the overtime.

FirstMerit's donation will cover the overtime for 20 officers.

Those who can't make it to the fireworks on Thursday can enjoy some of Mid-Michigan's biggest displays right from their livin room.

Be sure to join Sam Merrill and Liz Gelardi for the annual TV5 fireworks spectacular.

The show starts Thursday at 10 p.m. on WNEM TV5. When you're out enjoying the festivities, let us know what you think. Use #FIREWORKSTV5 to sound off and join the conversation.
