Seven Michigan craft brewers say stronger clean-water regulations would produce even better beer.

The Obama administration has promised to release guidelines for interpreting a 2006 Supreme Court ruling in two Michigan cases. The court issued a murky decision about which wetlands and streams are covered by the Clean Water Act.

The Detroit News says brewers in a letter told President Barack Obama that strong protection of water quality is important for their product, the environment and human health.

They're looking for a broad reading of the Supreme Court ruling that would allow more waters to be protected, while some business interests are pushing for a narrow interpretation that would limit regulated areas. The brewers are part of a larger group keeping an eye on the issue.
